In 1999 Skytrax launched its first global, Airport customer satisfaction survey. That was the conception of these coveted World Airport Awards.

The prestigious awards are based on feedback provided from passengers of over 100 nationalities across more than 575 airports.  They are regarded as a quality benchmark for the world airport industry, assessing customer service and facilities across all airports.

King Shaka scooped the best regional airport award, beating airports such as Kigali, Antananarivo, Luanda  and other regional airports. Cape Town International Airport raised the bar in the continent as it won the best African Airport, Best Airport Staff service in Africa  with OR Tambo International Airport bringing home the Best Airport Hotel in Africa. Other notable wins was Singapore Changi Airport winning World’s Best Airport for 2025.

Ecstatic to the new, Mpumi Mpofu, CEO of Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), expressed that their goal is to provide a seamless, safe and enjoyable travel experience for all who pass through their airports. â€˜These recognitions affirm that we are on the right path and inspire us to continue raising the bar’. 

King Shaka Airport’s win boosts Durban’s ongoing efforts to obtain more direct airline routes into the city, increasing visitor arrivals.
